Need better Inserts

I made the decision today that the $30 commercial inserts I bought last week to help my plantar facitis were not going to help and made an appointment for next week to get custom inserts. If they will do the job, the price will be well worth it. I also sent out invitations to my 50th birthday party to be held next month. My husband asked me what I want for my birthday, I answered, "I want to go backpacking!" Of course that's not going to happen till I can get my feet working properly. Hope the custom orthotics do the trick.

New Inserts

I received my new $30 orthotic inserts in the mail on Tuesday. So far, I don't think they work as well as the less expensive ones I purchased at the drug store. I'll try it for a little while longer but my guess at this point is that I'll have to go for the custom orthotics.

In other news, I was out with my husband on Tuesday at the local pub pool tournament and one of the players was talking to some friends about a recent hike he went on. Turns out he had hooked up with an informal hiking group of women over 50. Sounded cool to me and he agreed to take my name and number to his friend in the group and ask if she would contact me. Haven't heard anything yet but anything's possible.

Finally, Wednesday was my weigh in day, 2nd week of my serious push to lose weight. I lost another kilogram. Yaaaay! That makes a 3K total or 2.2pounds per kilos X 3 kilos = 6.6 pounds in 2 weeks.

June Heat

Hot yesterday and hot today but I don't really mind. I went to the orthopedic prosthetics people on Tuesday (7th). They confirmed the foot diagnosis and then we moved to the meat of the issue, what to do about it. They explained how the prosthetics work. I had 2 options, the less expensive is to buy high end commercial inserts. These may actually do the trick. If that doesn't do it, then I move on to the custom made inserts which they do right there on site. So, I went with the less expensive alternative to start and I should receive them in the mail tomorrow (Friday). Other news: I made a 10 mile bike ride yesterday with no ill effects. So, I'm ready for Sunday's Tour de Cure. Jim, Frank and I will meet up before 8am to get a group photo before Frank takes off on the 100 mile ride. Jim and I will hang out till 9:15am for the 10 mile ride. Today I decided to try and go a day without aspirin for the foot swelling and arch pain. So far, not too bad but I also haven't done much walking or biking today. We'll see how it goes.

Bike Riding

Today I took my bike out of the basement, pumped up the tires and went for a short ride with my husband. I felt pretty good. We rode for about an hour around the area. I guess I'm fairly ready to ride in the June 12th Tour de Cure for the American Diabetes Association. On Memorial Day my right knee started giving me grief. It was especially annoying as I was to march in the Gloversville Memorial Day parade. Anyway, I sucked it up and marched. The knee wasn't too bad. It has been getting progressively better all week. My ankle is still slightly swollen but I tilled my garden up with no ill effects so I'm judging the ankle to be 95% or more. I cancelled my June doctor appointment. I did set up an appointment with a center that will help me with my plantar facitis. Hopefully some custom orthotics will help me with the pain in my feet. My final step is to make a serious committment to losing weight. If I had done that in January, I'd be 20 or more pounds lighter by now. Oh well, no use crying over spilt milk. I started the serious diet on June 1st. I've lost a kilogram already. I'm trying to stick to a 1500 or so calorie intake with my usual activity schedule. We'll see how this goes. I've also taken to keeping a food diary. That activity is really helping so far. I've even started measuring out the portions where I think I'm being a little generous. That helps too. We'll see where I am by the end of the month. Goal for end of month? Lose 10 pounds!
