Ankle Check

I had a check of my broken ankle on the 21st. More Xrays were taken and the ankle looks good. My only complaint is that the stuffing feels like its rubbing the skin at the back of my ankle and the achilles tendon raw. The doctor didn't seem to think it was a problem. He insisted that there is plenty of padding in the cast. I have another check on March 3rd. I'll see how it feels then. There really isn't any pain in the ankle any more unless I hit it on something or, in vain efforts to move my foot inside the cast to escape the very annoying rubbing, twist it too much. I have been feeling very blue the last few days. My inability to do pretty much anything is really starting to get me down. Randy has been a gem, waiting on me hand and foot but he doesn't water my plants right. Or turn them. He does drive me places when I need to go somewhere, which since Monday has been everyday. I guess this is enough whining for now.

10 Days of Broken Ankle

It's been 10 days since I broke my ankle. I went out of the house for the 1st time since the 8th. I went to my Project Manager Chapter meeting. I remain amazed at how everything is now an aerobic exercise. The foot still swells as soon as I take it down off of the pillows. Therefore, I tend to keep it raised. My checkup with the orthopedic surgeon is the 21st. We'll see how well I'm doing then. Today is my annual physical. Obviously scheduled before the ankle problems. Since the car is in the basement garage, getting to and from the car means I have to negotiate the basement stairs. Best way is to sit down and move one step at a time. Not bad going down but going up means I have to lift myself up each step. Lots of arm exercise. I'm also doing some exercises with hand weights and doing some leg lift and sit ups. I spent a lot of time at the gym and don't want to totally regress. So, I'm doing what I can.

Broken Ankle

Well, slipped on a nearly invisible patch of ice yesterday morning (Tuesday, Feb 8th). Broke my ankle. This really sets me back in my quest toward the ability to backpack. I'll be in the cast about 6 weeks. Then I'll have to get the strength back in my leg.
