Test Hike

Tested my new shoe inserts this morning. Did 5 miles in 2 hours. Got a blister on one toe. I expect it's rubbing on the top of the toe box. Solutions may be less heavy socks and/or loosening laces to allow the toe box on the boot to expand. A longer (timewise) hike will be the next test. Perhaps a 10 miler in one day.

Hey Connie! This is pretty cool, nice to see you're keeping busy. Is Randy following you on the trails? Do you plan to hike the whole trail one day?

Thanks for viewing. No, Randy isn't hiking with me but we do some local hikes together. Elizabeth is joining me for the Northville-Lake Placid hike. I think some friends are also joining at certain sections. It's been a really wet summer so I'm hoping the weather is dry for the hike.

The Northville-Lake Placid hike should take 9 days at 16 miles per day. That's why foot comfort is kind of important.

Connie,

Finally made it to your blog. Can't access it from my daily location, so I have to stop by the library or some other semi-public place.

Hope the hiking works out for you. Randy's pictures sure have been enjoyable. Quite a departure from the view in my part of the country.

I suspect the hiking will be particularly beautiful in the fall. I recall the changing of the leaves during my many trips to Rome. Do you plan to hike into the winter? In Norway, what were our hiking/running trails in the spring, summer and fall, became our cross country skiing routes in the winter.

Runner's tip. I slather lots of petroleum jelly on the feet before a particularly long run (not something I've done lately, unfortunately) and that helps cut down on the sock/foot friction.

Keep enjoying that retirement...

Thanks Dennis. I don't have any current plans to winter hike though lots of people do just that. 3 seasons are enough for me.
